Marca Corona Ecoliving
The beginning of a new year is always a moment to take stock: what have we learned from 2020, a period marked by the global pandemic? A difficult year sure to be remembered not only for the material, economic and emotional damage caused to people, their families and companies, but also as a monumental turning point in our behaviors, our actions, our customs, and our way of understanding and reinventing work, relationships and life in general. One of the biggest aspects to come out of 2020 for kids and young teens — now well-accustomed to wearing a mask and washing their hands often — is the essential role of hygiene, fundamental to curbing the diffusion of the virus and, in some way, combatting and containing it. What's more, Covid-19 has also changed our understanding of living at home and in the public sphere. Whether in our domestic den or shared spaces outside, it's crucial that all environments guarantee maximum health, hospitality, and safety. Today more than ever, everyday spaces should provide for our psychological and physical wellness, transmitting the idea of emotional and physical health to make us feel safe and comfortable.

Today, the "health" aspect should already be considered and incorporated in the design phase, but how exactly? By opting, for example, for furnishings with clean and simple lines that are easily sanitized, together with quality materials that are practical to clean, resistant to sanitizing treatments, and that inherently reduce the proliferation of bacteria and pathogens. An essential role is surely played by the surfaces we come into contact with, beginning with floors and claddings, which should be antibacterial, non-porous, hypoallergenic and inert. Porcelain stoneware and ceramics in general embrace all of these characteristics, presenting an excellent choice in the midst of a pandemic as they're non-absorbent, mold and bacteria proof, resistant to sanitizing products, naturally sourced, environmentally friendly, and completely safe. Today more than ever it's recommended to incorporate safe and easily washable surfaces in every environment: from schools to hospitals, offices, hospitality and wellness centers, and even private homes. Marca Corona offers ceramic collections designed to guarantee living comfort and personal health. Realized with natural materials, the ceramics from this historic brand contain no plastic or harmful synthetic substances, and require no superficial chemical treatments. The tiles from Marca Corona don't emit volatile organic compounds (VOC), don't absorb dust or dirt, are completely odorless and won't provoke allergies, making them perfectly suited for any space, whether commercial or residential. And let's not forget about their impeccable beauty. For all these reasons, surfaces from the Sassuolo-based brand have been incorporated in countless projects around the world, ranging from scholastic contexts to medical centers, recreational hubs, and workspaces. Let's take a closer look at a few of them.

An ancient castle transformed into a private school inspired by the Montessori method. Located in the Czech Republic, Be Open was renovated by architecture studio Opálka Design, who selected small format tiles from the 1741 Line by Marca Corona. The Terra series of porcelain stoneware cementine tiles with a bold decorative character is perfect for welcoming the young students, creating a fresh and carefree atmosphere. The functional and charming collections from Marca Corona can also be found in the cafeteria area, kitchen, gym, lockers, and bathrooms. Pictured here is the entrance, facing a centuries-old park in Prague, where visitors can admire the playful geometric decoration framed by elegant backgrounds in gray and black.
San Paolo Hospital, Milan

Able to ensure maximum safety, hygiene, resistance and practical cleaning, the porcelain stoneware tiles of Marca Corona were selected for the delicate environments of the Emergency Room in Milan's recently expanded San Paolo Hospital. The new hospital wing was designed to be welcoming, easy to get around and safe for patients, where the three Marca Corona collections selected are spread throughout the new Emergency department. Stoneware floors in Arkistone with a stone effect create a pleasant game of geometries and colors in the reception area, corridors, waiting rooms and all the patient treatment rooms. In the spaces dedicated to staff, like offices and kitchens, Lagom floors with a wood effect were installed along with Color Mix tiles, selected in warm and neutral tones to convey a sense of intimacy and serenity.

The largest shopping center on the Asian continent is the Starfield COEX Mall of Seoul. Inside, the enormous Starfield Library was inaugurated across two floors for a total of 2,500 square meters welcoming over 50,000 books and 600,000 international magazines. For the floors of this literary temple, the famous Gensler studio opted for the ceramic Prestige series by Marca Corona: surfaces with a wood effect inspired by the most prized essences of oak. In the Brown variety with an elegant 22,5x90 format, the ceramics of Marca Corona create a welcoming and informal atmosphere that's ideal for a bit of reading.
Hotel d'Aubusson 5* SPA Paris

To embellish the luxurious spa area of the Hotel D'Aubusson, a 5-star boutique hotel in the Saint-German-des-Prés neighborhood of Paris, studio Bruno Borrione put their trust in the Made in Italy quality of Marca Corona's ceramics. The spa is, after all, a particularly challenging environment in terms of aesthetic performance, technical resistance and safety. To pave the floors and clad the wellness area, guaranteeing beautiful spaces and maximum technical performance, creatives went with the Motif Extra marble-effect stoneware and StoneOne tiles with a stone effect. The luxurious Motif Extra floors, in both Travertine and Calacatta versions, lend an exclusive atmosphere to the entire spa, from the indoor pool to the private gym, lockers and reception. Meanwhile, in the massage cabins, Motif Extra Calacatta floors and claddings add luminosity and extravagance to the refined Chevron version as well as the elegant mosaic tiles, offered in the brilliant reflex finish.
Delta AirLines headquarter, Atlanta
Raftermen
In 2017, the new headquarters of Delta Air Lines was inaugurated in Atlanta, Georgia. For their new space, Studio Idea Span selected the 75x150cm StoneOne Silver stoneware tiles with a stone and cement effect, marked by a bold materialistic character. Thanks to the authenticity of their natural veining, these floors with a stone-cement effect lend a contemporary and informal look to entrances, offices, cafeterias, gyms, and common areas of modern headquarters.
Concerto Apartments Complex, Brisbane

Bellevue QLD studio has put their trust in the quality of Made in Italy ceramics by Marca Corona to pave the luxury apartments in Brisbane's Concerto Apartments. In the multilevel structure, wood-effect Restyle floors were selected to provide elegance and authenticity to the living area and kitchen. Even the penthouse apartment, flaunting a breathtaking view, presents the same floor tiles in porcelain stoneware, complete with a personalized installation including the lighter and more subtle graphics of Restyle Beige.
La Ménagère Bistrot, Florence
Courtesy Marca Corona
In the La Ménagère concept restaurant, furnishings and atmospheres pay homage to the original locale, the oldest homeware shop of Florence, while referencing ideas of the home and intimacy. As a multifunctional property — bistro, bar, florist and homeware shop — the space was in need of resistant, hygienic and safe materials. For its restoration, Marca Corona's Terra cement tiles in porcelain stoneware were selected with a cotto effect. The Baldini architects at studio Q-Bic relied on the company from Sassuolo to recreate the classical style, choosing small tiles with a chalky look from the Terra series. In the kitchen, opening onto the dining hall, hexagonal tiles were used along with the Cubo decoration, evoking the shapes and patterns typical of Florence's 19th-century buildings.
